The Unavowed is currently in the process of getting our second EP mastered and ready for the masses and I gotta say, we're pretty excited. The band has come a long way since the fall of 2006 when four guys rented a jam space mostly for an excuse to drink beer and make some noise. We never thought we'd get this far. We never really planned it either.
Our first attempt at recording was entirely DIY. We rented a digital 8 track and some mics and went at it. The engineering, mixing, mastering and duplication (including printing and packaging) was done entirely by the us. It was quite the learning experience to say the least.
While it's not exactly the best sounding metal album of all time, we were happy with with our self titled EP when we unveiled it to the local scene and, over the course of two years, we managed to sell all but a small handful of the CDs we made (I have five copies here in a box).
To add to that, more and more people started appearing at our shows; people who are not our friends and/or family. The Unavowed ended 2009 with a small buzz surrounding us.
We decided to start 2010 with a brand new recording and quickly hopped into a local studio. It's now two months later, and we've past the recording and mixing stage and we are now designing the graphics while the recording is being mastered.
As it stand now, all will be revealed in April. Personally, I can't wait to get this out to everyone as I think this recording is a major step up from the last song-wise as well as sound wise.
As a band, we are not technical by any means. We write defined verses and choruses. We like simple, heavy riffs. We manage to capture the spirit of Thrash as it was back in the day by understanding, and sticking to, our limits as musicians.
We were described once by a guy at one of our shows as "original and modern - in that old school kinda way. BUT not rip-off".
That's about right.
